The Pioneer Hoedown was a yearly celebration held at my previous school recognizing the contributions of the American Pioneers to our culture.  Students created fictional stories and publications set during this time.  Using themes from 7th and 8th grade social studies standards, students will produce a variety of publications utilizing Macintosh's Pages and an online publication app called LucidPress.

Bear Business was a student magazine written by fourth and fifth graders at my previous school in Henderson, Nevada using Macintosh's Pages and Microsoft's Publisher.  I'm looking forward to continuing with the fantastic work of WMS students on the Bulldog Bark.  We intend to produce  physical and online publications.

A publication application that we will use this year is Macintosh's iBooks Author.  This is a great authoring tool that can include interactive maps, images, and quizzes.  The finished project is then published to be viewed on an iPad.  This year students will produce publications that cover Washington State Standards in social studies and science.  An emphasis will be put on writing for a greater audience as a source of information.
